My Favorite Affordable Brushes

Sticking with the theme of Brushes, Brushes and more Brushes, Everyone loves a good brush. Some people prefer to spend tons on brushes, some people prefer to use sponge tip applicator that comes in their palettes. Some people think the strength of a makeup looks comes from the brush they use, some use only one brush for an entire look. Confusing? Yea I know.

I'm here to help you sort out your potential brush confusion and help you pick the right brushes with the least amount of time and money spent.  This list will contain brushed that can be used by anyone, from beginners all the way up to professions.

Each brush has its own special use and job in your makeup kit that can make a difference between a washed out eyeshadow look and a harsh lined, un-blended look. So here is a list of brushes, What they're used for, prices and where they can be found:

ALL OVER FACE BRUSH:

ELF studio stipple brush

Elf Studio is a great brand collection of makeup brushes. at $3.00 a pop you really can't go wrong with them. This Stipple brush is great for pressed powders and buffing out cream or liquid foundations. It has duo synthetic fibers, (that  don't shed) blending is easy, and it gives you a nice air brushed look. It can also be used for blush, bronzer, contouring and highlighting. These brushes can be found in almost any Ladies Dr. Jay's in new York City as well as on The ELF website ELF Stipple Brush

EYESHADOW BRUSH:

Sonia Kashuk Small Eyeshadow Brush

Sonia Kashuk brushes are slowly creeping their way into my favorite brushes list. These brushes are super versatile and they blend beautifully and evenly, they don't shed and contain 100% sable hair. They go for $4.99 and can be found at any Target store sold individually or in sets that run between $9.99 to $20 (includes crease brush, brow/lash  comb, medium eyeshadow brush and smudger) which I think is a great little investment for the beginner makeup artist.

CREASE BRUSH:

Mattese Elite Crease Brush

At $14 this is one of the most expensive brushes on my list but well worth the money. This Blending brush contains natural fibers and a pointed dome shape that makes applying crease color effortless and error proof. You can use this brush to build colors in the crease for a more dramatic look or lightly for a a softer look. it is very versatile and can also be used for contouring the nose and cheek area. It can be found in any Ricky's store or on the Ricky's website.

EYELINER, ANGLED AND FLAT BRUSHES:

Loew-Cornell Artist Brushes

If you are quite the watercolor artist then you may recognize these Loew-Cornell brushes. Yes thats right, these are paint brushes. LC brushes are the best kind of paint brushes that can double as makeup brushes (although I wouldn't recommend using them interchangeably). These Brushes have the rep of being compared to some MAC brushes (Which I am totally against) so if your not interested in spending your life saving on liner brushes by MAC I would suggest these. They come in different shapes and sizes and are mostly made from synthetic fibers. They run anywhere between $2.00 and $10 and can be found at most  Micheal's art and craft stores or at RexArt.com

The key to a great makeup look can sometimes have nothing to do with the brushes that you use at all. Some makeup artist such as QueenofBlending only use one brush for everything from a simple one colored look to an intricate detailed look.

Technique can play a major part in the way your makeup looks turn out, so make sure that your have the basic color placement and blending technique down pact before you start doubting your brushes ability.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you may have about your brushes. or any of the brush that I have posted.
